I’ve always been drawn to houses with front porches. A welcome entrance to a home. A place of protection.
A place to sit and relax. A place to enjoy God’s creation in the morning or the evening. A place for family and friends to gather. To talk. To just be.
To just be.
On a porch, there is no place you have to be. There is no hurry. It’s as if time can stand still. Even if only for a little while. It’s that connection to others and to the outside that I love the most.
I have fond memories of playing Barbies and dolls there. It provided me with a spot to play outside when it rained. It was where I could sit and watch the lighting bugs.
It was where I would swing with my Grandparents and my Aunt. Listen to the whip-poor-will. Sometimes the cicadas.
It’s the kind of place I would like to think of as ‘my room.’
Jesus tells us in John 14:1-3 NIV, “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also my be where I am.”
I believe God knows how much I love front porches. It is my hope that, that is the room He has prepared for me in heaven.
Think about it.
What do you envision your “room” in heaven to be?
Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for realizing that I need the comfort of knowing that I am already taken care of in heaven. That you love me enough to have prepared a place just for me. That you have promised to come back and personally take me there to be with you. Thank you for all the times I can ‘just be’ on a front porch. Thank you for the feeling of connectedness to others and to nature that I feel when I am in ‘my room.’ In Jesus name I pray. Amen.
