I like music. I’m eclectic in my selections. I like jazz, christian, country – old and new, 80’s and pop. All depending upon my mood.
The car is my stage, where I can sing loud and proud. To my ears I am a star.
It’s amazing the emotions that can come from singing. The lyrics can lift me up from sadness. Can even make me smile as I picture the scene described.
But then there are times when the words get clogged in my throat from the tears making their way to my eyes. When I can’t sing because the pain is too great.
As I read Psalm 40:3, “He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear the Lord and put their trust in him.” NIV
It occurred to me that God is giving me a new song to sing. It’s is a song that is born from a broken heart and disillusionment. It has been hard to learn. It is a song I have fought not to sing. I didn’t want this song. But it continues to be the song that is before me.
As I look back over this journey, I see God’s mercy and blessing. I can see where He has given me strength to do things I could not do on my own. Where He has sent another to encourage and lift me up. Where He has reminded of times He has been with me and is, still to this day. He has blessed me with things I had not even dreamed.
It is up to me to sing the words of this song with praise and thanksgiving back to Him. He is patient and faithful as I learn these words. He is waiting as I allow them rise to my lips.
I want to sing the words of praise for this new song God has given me. Even when the words are sad at times for me to sing. I want to remember that others are watching my life and that it points them to God.
Lord, please forgive me when I only want to sing happy songs. Please place in me peace to sing any song you give me. Remembering the praise and glory for everything belongs to you. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
Your song to Jesus is a beautiful one! Keep singing loud and proud!
